Ephemeris Search

LUNA provides a search tool that lets you find exact timings of astrological events. Once you make your search selections, LUNA will show you all events that match your criteria. Events are sorted chronologically starting with the earliest event in the date range. You can easily reverse the sort order, and filter your results by date and/or keyword to narrow down your results.

Select from four (4) different event types to search:

  • Aspects
  • Direction Changes
  • House Transits
  • Zodiac Sign Transits

Pro Tip!

You can combine multiple searches into a unified timeline to easily browse a series of astrological events that are of specific interest to you.

See “My Searches” to learn how.

Get Started

To search for any of the available event types, begin by navigating to the “Ephemeris Search page”:

  • Login to your account if you’re not already logged in.
  • [Desktop] Select “Ephemeris” from the main navigation (top of the screen); or,
  • [Mobile] Select the “more” link (3 dots) from the upper-right of the screen, then select “Ephemeris”.
  • Select the “Ephemeris Search” tab.

FYI

After you navigate to the “Ephemeris Search” tab, you will see the Aspects search form by default. You can easily navigate to any of the other event types from this screen.

Aspects

To find when two (2) planets make exact aspects with one another:

  1. From the “Ephemeris Search” screen, select the “Aspects” tab.
  2. Set the “Start Search” date (default is the current date).
  3. (Optional) Set the “End Search” date.
  4. (Optional) Enter a name for the search.

Date Range Limitations

If you do not select an “End Search” date for your search, LUNA uses the synodic cycle of the planets to find all of the selected aspects within that time range. For example, the synodic cycle between the Sun and Moon is approximately twenty-nine and a half (29.5) days.

You can search for aspects across a longer date range by specifying an “End Search” date longer than the synodic cycle of the planets you select for your search.

LUNA imposes a two-hundred (200) year limit on all aspect searches, with the exception of Neptune-Pluto aspects since their synodic cycle is approximately five-hundred (500) years. In this case, LUNA allows you to search for aspects across their entire synodic cycle.

Long date range searches can result in slower search times.

Direction Changes

To find when a planet stations direct or retrograde (RX):

  1. From the “Ephemeris Search” screen, select the “Direction Changes” tab.
  2. Set the “Start Search” date (default is the current date).
  3. (Optional) Set the “End Search” date.
  4. (Optional) Enter a name for the search.
  5. Select the planet you want to search from the list.
  6. Select either “Direct”, “Retrograde”, or both.
  7. Click or tap the “Search Direction Changes” button.

Date Range Limitations

If you do not select an “End Search” date for your search, LUNA uses the sidereal period of the planet to find all of the selected direction changes within that time range. For example, the sidereal period of Mercury is approximately eighty-eight (88) days

You can search for direction changes across a longer date range by specifying an “End Search” date longer than the sidereal period of the planet you select for your search.

LUNA imposes a two-hundred (200) year limit on all direction change searches, with the exception of Pluto since its sidereal period is approximately two-hundred and forty-eight (248) years. In this case, LUNA allows you to search for direction changes across its entire sidereal period.

Long date range searches can result in slower search times.

Date Range Limitations

Date Range Limitations

If you do not select an “End Search” date for your search, LUNA uses the sidereal period of the planet to find all of the selected zodiac sign transits within that time range. For example, the sidereal period of Mercury is approximately eighty-eight (88) days.

You can search for zodiac sign transits across a longer date range by specifying an “End Search” date longer than the sidereal period of the planet you select for your search.

LUNA imposes a two-hundred (200) year limit on all zodiac sign transit searches, with the exception of Pluto since its sidereal period is approximately two-hundred and forty-eight (248) years. In this case, LUNA allows you to search for direction changes across its entire sidereal period.

Long date range searches can result in slower search times.

Which zodiac is used in searches?

When searching for zodiac sign transits, LUNA will use the zodiac that is currently configured in your settings. The search results screen will indicate which zodiac was used when finding the event.
