Sirius—The Sothic Star

This article provides background information and attribution to the glyph that LUNA uses for the fixed star Sirius, which may also be referred to as The Sothic Star.

Introduction

The Sothic Star is a restoration of a sacred stellar standard dating back to the 18th Dynasty (c.1379 BCE), when Sirius was revered as the “Spiritual Sun behind the Sun.

The Sothic Star (Sirius) represents the point of Vocational Veracity and Authenticity in the birth chart. It highlights where and how an individual has the potential to awaken and align with their Higher Self, turning their earthly work into a sacred expression of their highest truth.

Research Notes

The following research is conducted and provided by Melissa Pacheco.

The Sacred Stellar Standard (c. 1379 BCE)

The date 1379 BCE is a recognized “Sothic Anchor” in Egyptian chronology, marking a significant alignment within the 18th Dynasty (New Kingdom). This era represents a pinnacle of stellar theology where the civil calendar was precisely calibrated by the heliacal rising of Sirius.

—Richard A. Parker, The Calendars of Ancient Egypt (University of Chicago Press, 1950).

The “Spiritual Sun behind the Sun”

This concept identifies Sirius as the source of spiritual illumination for our solar system -the “Sun of the Sun.” This phrasing is a hallmark of the Hermetic and Theosophical lineages, documenting the star’s role as the spiritual guide for human evolution.

—H.P. Blavatsky, The Secret Doctrine (1888).

The Astrological Nature of Sirius

Traditionally, Sirius is ascribed the combined temperament of Jupiter and Mars, signifying high vocation and spiritual authority.

—Claudius Ptolemy, Almagest (2nd Century CE).
